Change Your Site Title in Six Simple Steps

Summary

Learn the art of website transformation – discover how to change your site title for a powerful online presence!

The site title often appears on browser tabs and in search results. It is often displayed as the name of your WordPress site. How do you change your site title though? Thankfully, it’s a relatively straightforward process.

The tagline is a short description of the site or a slogan. Some examples would be Apple: “Think different”, Nike: “just do it”, or Burger King: “have it your way”. Sometimes the tagline is displayed on the site and sometimes it’s just part of the metadata.

Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to change either one:

Step 1: Log in

Log into your WordPress dashboard

Step 2: Go to Settings page

Hover over Settings on the menu, then select “General” from the submenu. This will take you to the General Settings page.

Step 3: Change settings

On the General Settings page, you’ll see a field labeled “Site Title.” This is where you can change the name of your site. Type in the new name for your website.

The next field is for the tagline. If you want to change the site’s tagline (a brief description or slogan), you can do so in the “Tagline” field. This step is optional. If you don’t want to change the tagline, you can leave it as it is or remove any text to make it empty.

Step 4: Save

After making the necessary changes, scroll down the page and click the “Save Changes” button to save your new site title and tagline.

Step 5: Confirm changes

Visit your website in a new tab or window to ensure that the changes have taken effect. You should see the new site title in the appropriate place where your theme displays it, usually at the top of the site.

Step 6 (optional): Clear cache

If you use a caching plugin or a content delivery network (CDN), you may need to clear the cache to see the changes immediately. This step may not be necessary for all users.

That’s it! Keep in mind when you change your site title or tagline, it does not affect the URL or domain of your site. If you want to change the URL or domain, we’ll explain that in another article, since it is a much more complex process.
